Scam Alerts
If you are purchasing a sex doll for the first time, beware of fraud. Below, we outline the most common types of scams and provide tips to protect yourself.
1. The Most Common Fraud: Counterfeit Products
The most common fraud in the sex doll industry involves purchasing counterfeit products. Examples of suspicious transactions include WM sex dolls sold on websites like eBay or AliExpress for $300–$600. Typically, images of WM dolls are taken without the consent of WM Dolls and used to promote counterfeit dolls.
These products are of extremely poor quality and lack any certifications (e.g., CE/FDA/ROSH). They often have a strong odor and may contain harmful chemicals used in the production process, which can be hazardous to human health. They appear rough, lack detail, and often have minor imperfections on fingers and toes. Additionally, due to low production costs, their skeletal structures are fragile and prone to breaking. They typically use low-quality hose skeletons, resulting in dolls that become comically distorted after use. See the image below:
2. How to Avoid Being Scammed
BetterLoveDoll offers five tips to help you avoid scams when purchasing sex dolls:
- Check the Price: Generally, most well-known brands sell life-sized sex dolls (150 cm and above) for no less than $1000. A few high-quality non-branded dolls may be priced lower, but rarely below $650. If you find a sex doll 150 cm or taller priced below $600, it is 99% likely to be fake! Some mini sex dolls (100 cm or 60 cm tall) may be priced between $300–$500, but check your country or region’s policies, as dolls shorter than 125 cm are considered child pornography in most regions. BetterLoveDoll does not sell dolls smaller than 125 cm (except for extremely special scaled-down mature sex dolls).
-
Consult Brand Representatives: When purchasing branded sex dolls, consult brand representatives through The Doll Forum (TDF). Most well-known sex doll brands are available on TDF.
Visit TDF to view a complete list of legitimate sex doll companies or communicate with brand staff to confirm if a store is an authorized dealer. Alternatively, visit celesdolls.com for advice.
- Verify Customer Service: Check if the website offers 24-hour customer service and a support phone number. Ask questions to see if they respond professionally and promptly.
- Check Website Legitimacy: Verify if the website is legitimate and if they are authorized dealers for the brands they sell. Review the company’s mission statement, shipping and return policies, and whether their reviews are genuine.
- Research Reviews: Visit review sites like Trustpilot to check for positive reviews. Search Google for discussions about the store or brand.
In addition to counterfeit products, a smaller but more alarming type of fraud involves “scams” where payment is made but no product is delivered. Scam websites are often rudimentary, displaying incomplete or contradictory information and may offer unfamiliar payment methods like bank transfers. (Credit card and PayPal payments are refundable, so scammers typically avoid them.)
